In the book "The Boy in Striped Pajamas", Bruno the young son of a Nazi commandant moves out of Berlin and near a concentration camp with his family because his father is taking charge of Out-With. In his new home, Bruno is told that there are certain places that are "Out of Bounds At All Times with No Exceptions."But given his sense of curiosity he explores until one day he comes across a fence. On the other side of the fence he finds a little boy his same age dressed with striped clothes, a cloth cap and no shoes. From this point on, they develop a friendship and Bruno comes to see Shmuel everyday. One day Bruno's mom finds lice in his and Gretel's (his sister) hair and decides that Out-With is not a safe environment for them and wants to move back to Berlin. The day that Bruno's mom makes the move official, Bruno goes and tells Shmuel that he is moving back to Berlin. The day before Bruno is to move back to Berlin, Shmuel asks Bruno if he could help him find his father. After lunch the next day Bruno heads out to help Shmuel look for his father. Shmuel hands Bruno his striped clothes so that he can blend in with the rest of the people. After looking around for Shmuel father with no signs of him, the Nazis round up the Jews to take them to the gas chamber. Bruno and Shmuel find themselves in the middle of the crowd not knowing what's going on. Not realizing that they were both in a gas chamber, Bruno grabs Shmuel's hand and tells him, "you are my best friend for life."
